Day 1 Handling the Holidays Series
“The Holidays” tend to make you think you are REALLY busy. I challenge you to go through your calendar over the last 3 months. Notice how many birthday parties, baby showers, sports end of season parties, and family dinners you had. How many times did you go out to lunch with friends? Date night at a restaurant with your spouse? Now look how many times you were at an event with a snack bar—the kind where candy and treats are only $1. For me it was 27.
Now take a look at your holiday party schedule. Is it more than the events you just counted up? I know my spouse’s Christmas work party will likely take the place of date night. So no extra night out there. I have a Christmas party for my church ladies group—a gathering just like every month, except this month it is Christmas themed. So no extra night out there.
Just be REALLY honest with how many ADDITIONAL events you have beyond your USUAL schedule.
We have this go-to thought that sounds something like this “I can’t lose weight during the holidays because I’m so busy. There are so many events that I can’t possibly manage to not overeat.” This is not true. It’s just the easy thought to delay the time to start working on your health goals. Your brain prefers this because it does not like change. Your brain will offer you all kinds of reasons and being “too busy” is a favorite one!
Tomorrow we’ll look at a little known secret weapon to weight loss.
