Did you know that food is actually NOT entertainment?
Food is neutral.
Food doesn’t care if you eat it or not.
Food doesn’t sing and dance.
Food doesn’t love you back.
Food is not actually entertaining.
Your thoughts ABOUT the food is what is entertaining. You choose to think you are having a pleasurable experience when you are having dinner with your family because the food is really delicious. But what if it was just the company that was entertaining?
You choose to think that the popcorn really makes the movie. But what if you were entertained just by the movie?
You choose to think that the snack will help with your boredom. But what if you just felt the emotion of boredom instead of having an unneeded snack?
My point here is that you can think anything you want about food.
You can think that the food is the entertainment. Or you can think that the company is the entertainment and you can eat vegetables and have the exact same experience as eating ice cream.
You can think popcorn is essential to the movie experience. Or you can think that you are all in on these characters and the drama going on and be thoroughly entertained by the movie itself.
You can think that food will alleviate boredom. Or you can think that boredom is not that big of a deal–you can totally feel that emotion and know it’s not actually going to hurt you (your brain thinks feelings are actually dangerous).
You can totally think whatever you want about food–because you’re an adult. But if you want to stop thinking of food as entertainment, and start recognizing it as fuel, you can do that too. When we stop depending on food for entertainment, we start to look elsewhere to make our life exciting. We start to notice that it’s the company around the table that is actually super enjoyable. We start to notice that we don’t need to go to food to alleviate boredom. We can either just feel boredom–or better yet–we can get out in the world and start creating, start living on purpose and start finding entertainment in all the world has to offer!
