Weight Loss is Not a Hobby

What are your hobbies? What do you like to do for fun, when you have an hour of unscheduled time?

Surprisingly, many of my clients who are moms, do not know how to answer this question.  They’ve been so “busy” with the kids for so long that the only thing she does for herself has to do with her weight.  She exercises.  She plans meals.  She meal preps. She looks at Pinterest for more meals that fit into whatever diet she is currently following–something low calorie, low carb, with magical weight loss vegetables. . .

Weight loss is not a hobby. Let’s think about other things you enjoy!

We’ve all read the “self-care tips” online.  But those may not speak to you. Honestly I don’t really want to take a bath all that often! Even with fancy candles and bath salts! Spend some time deciding what you really want!

When you stop obsessing about food, you’ll free up space in your brain.  What do you want to think about?

When you stop using all your mental energy worrying about your weight and what you ate or what you might be tempted to eat, what do you want to use that energy for?

What do you want to learn?

What do you want to do?

Seriously spend some time giving that some thought.

Here’s a few things I do–I just want to show you that it doesn’t have to be magnificent or difficult.

I love to sew.  I love to see a flat piece of fabric turn into a three dimensional useful object.  I specifically like to make bags! I also make Halloween costumes for the kiddos and occasionally an apron. (The photo at the top of this page is of the waxed canvas backpacks I made my boys this year for Christmas! Hence the reason they are wearing pajamas!)

I like to work with my hands on crafts–crocheting, knitting and beading.

I like to read. I don’t really love watching a lot of TV. I prefer to read in the evening. I listen to books in the car or while cooking or doing dishes. And occasionally even when I workout if I just “can’t put it down!” Check out this post for what I’m currently reading!

I like to paint my own nails.  I’ve been doing gel polish on my nails with a LED light for about 10 years.  I love all the colors and change my color frequently!

I decided a few summers ago to learn how to stand up paddle board. I researched boards and bought 2.  I don’t go very frequently, but I do really like it! Very relaxing and usually pretty beautiful!

Ask yourself–what would I do if I had the extra mental energy?

Still can’t figure it out? I’d love to help you figure it out! Book a free strategy session with me and I’ll show you how to do it!
