People get confused about what I do. It’s fine–it’s not like I can tell them in 30 seconds either. Because when someone asks I love to talk about coaching! And I usually give a reeeaaaally long answer.
But here’s the short answer: YES.
Are you a health coach or a life coach? Or a weight loss coach? Yes. Yes to all of it.
Here’s why: because no one comes to me and says I just have no idea what to eat and when you tell me I will eat just that and there won’t be anything else to do. This is what meal plan diets assert. I’ll give you a meal plan (or specific food guidelines or what to eat and when to eat it), you’ll follow it and you’ll lose weight and that will be it. Ta-da!
Nope. That’s not what happens!
You get a meal plan (or a new diet plan) and then you do all the shopping and schedule all the meals and then it’s Thursday and time to make Roast Chicken and Broccoli with Quinoa and your brain steps in.
Your brain: That doesn’t really sound that good.
You: Yes but that’s what the meal plan says I should eat.
Your brain: But doesn’t pizza sound better?
You: Yes! I have a busy night and pizza does sound better and easier–let’s do that. Just this once because I’ve run out of time to make the chicken.
Here’s where the life coaching comes in. We all know what we should eat. We don’t need to be told eat more broccoli and fewer pizzas. What we need to know is why our brains want us to eat pizza when we already decided to eat broccoli?
It’s just this once.
I’ll get back on track tomorrow.
If I just had more willpower.
I can’t trust myself around sweets.
I don’t have time to eat healthy.
All these thoughts our brains offer us around food is where the life coaching really shines. We get to the root of why you are not eating what you said you were going to eat.
You lose weight through figuring out your thoughts about food. You change your health by noticing what it is in your life that is affecting it, and then using the life coaching tools to make changes. See how it’s all intertwined?
